"We Are the World" at 24
What began as an idea by Harry Belafonte and Will Kragen to put together a concert to raise money for Africa became reality when on January 28, 1985, the song "We Are the World," was recorded on the night of the American Music Awards. Written by Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones, the song debuted at number twenty-one on the Billboard chart and rose to claim the top spot after only three weeks. A testament to the power of team work in support of a cause "We Are the World" is an endearing song that is still relevant even today.

I used to love love this song as a child. I think really made an impact to the cause that was being promoted.
ReplyDeleteThis song brings back memories for me as well. I remember singing it as a child. Back then Stevie had a hair line, Ray Charles...Michael wasn't all plastic, and Dionne Warwick was perfection!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see that song re-made by some of our current artist
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great idea! Quincy could still direct it and have some of the old people and a couple of new voices sing.
ReplyDeleteEven for those who sang back then, they would sound different now...considering age, and the quality of equipment.
